Please HELP: Crash to Desktop on Launch after SC2 screen

Hi all,

Is anyone else getting the following problem:

The game crashes back to desktop once it reaches the supreme commander 2 load title screen after all the sponsor ads at the beginning even in windowed mode.

My copy is from steam has been integrity checked as well as being copied to my friends desktop so as to double check it (and not re-download it) and it works fine there.

Now I have no clue where the issue is I have all the latest drivers for graphics chipsets, physx, directX 11, 9.0c and I re-installed them all as well. The even funnier thing is the Demo of SupCom2 ran like a charm... so why do i have problems now!?

Specs:

I have an Alienware Laptop m17x-R1 Area51 with:

Windows 7 32-bit Pro

Intel Dual Core Extreme x9000 CPU @ 2.80GHz

4GB Ram

Dual nVidia 8800M GTX 512MB cards in SLi (tried without SLi nothing changes)

Things I have attempted as fix:

1. Creating a .bat file to start in windowed mode in various resolutions.

2. Edited the .pref file to show no initial sponsor movie ads

3. Deleted and re-downloaded the .pref file

4. Deleted and re-downloaded the /bin directory

5. Deleted and re-downloaded the whole game

6. Edited the launch option to -autconfig

7. Rolled back and upgraded to the following nVidia 8800m drivers: 186.81 notebook, 195.55 notebook, 195.62 notebook, 195.81 notebook. Trying to launch the game in every case

8. Attempted to run both in SLi and non SLi mode

9. Re-installed DirectX drivers of all sorts

10. Re-installed the C++ 2005 2008 redistribute packages

I am not the only Alienware laptop user which has this exact same problem, as far as I know on the Steam forum there are 4+ of us in this exact situation.

Can anyone help suggest where the issue could be? Any help would be really welcome at this point since I am on the verge of giving up...

I love this game and it kills me to not be able to play it :(

Thanks for your help

Edo|||Little help please bump :)|||yea... same here, running on xp btw.|||did u stin all the game of steram and did it pop up witha directx webrun time install?

If not try finding it on the web|||Hey I reinstalled the web based directx when i ran the game the first time and did it again and nothing helped. I also used some modded drivers (Dox's driver 195.62 to be precise) to see whether that would help but no luck once again.

Any more options to try beyond re-writing the game scripts?|||Draconicz if you are running on xp go download that window service pack 3, it will run the game but that update is a bitch to install. Took me more than 7 hours to fix this.|||My issue is similiar..

This doesn't happen everytime, but does happen a good 50% of the time. It also happened with the demo.

I launch the game via STEAM and the screen goes black. The next thing that should, and does about 50% of the time, is the Square Enix logo, then the GPG, etc. normal, but.. about the other 1/2 a hard reboot.

Does this sound like the same thing? I don't get to the ad screens, just prior.|||o kthe only think to suggest it that you Completely reinstall your game eg delete local files i know this will cause you problems but i had the same issue before and when i reinstalled it it worked|||woepriest|||try and install this cause it may help or iot may not

If you have an Alienware box (laptop or desktop), and are seeing this problem, try running the game with a command line argument of:

/disable_lightfx

You can add this through Steam by right clicking on Properties > General > Set Launch Properties.

This is a possible temporary fix for Alienware users ONLY. It won't do anything for other brand computers.
