SC2 Freezes

[:1]My game freezes randomly and frequently when I'm in game (campaign, skirmish or online). The mouse pointer moves perfectly and music's playing normally, I must hit Ctrl-Alt-Del (the music stops) and return back to the game to continue playing (the music keep stopped).

I've tried several video parameters (vert sync on/off, antialias from 4 trough 16Q, anisotropic from 4 to 16, detail levels) without success.

The DxDiag report can be found at http://www.furyweb.org/DxDiag.txt

I'll be happy to do some tasks (running diagnostic tools, tuning parameters, etc) if it can help.|||was it when you're using the Hunker ability? there's a bug that freezes the game when upgrading the Hunker ability while using it at the same time. this should be fixed come the 24MAR10 patch.|||No, it has nothing to do with the hunker. I'm experiencing it too.

Stuff our comps have in common:

Windows 7 x64

Intel CPU (Core 2 duo, Core i7)

Nvidia GFX card (9800GX, GTX260) w. 196.21 driver

A lot of ram (4GB, 8GB)

There's a new nvidia beta driver out today if you're feeling lucky.

Oh, and it appears in FA, too :(|||I had no problem at all with FA, I'll give a try to the beta driver for my 9800GX2.|||Last patch from Steam has no effect on this bug.

Last nVidia beta driver (197.13) crashes when playing SC2, computer must be restarted.|||Couple of questions, are you running any antivirus or firewall programs, is your CPU overclocked past the factory settings?|||Using MSE and windows firewall, no overclocking.

dxdiag|||Using MSE now, have used AVG before reinstalling.

No difference with or without windows firewall on this system but I'm behind a Linux box to access Internet.

CPU frequency is managed by BIOS ... I'll try to deactivate it and make new test.|||No change with fixed CPU frequency with EIST & Thermal Management disabled|||Perhaps an explanation :

I completely remove nVidia drivers (FR loc.) from my computer and install US 196.21 drivers, fans of my 9800GX2 during the 5th mission of the campaign make significantly more noise than before and I was able to play a couple of seconds longer until freeze.

So, I launched HWMonitor, set all details in SC2 to lowest value except antialias (set to 8) and run the campaign one more time.

Max temp of 1st core was 91°C (195°F) and 88°C (190°F) for the 2nd. Idle temp are around 70 and 73°C (158°F/163°F).|||Those are some high GPU temps. I believe that GPUs are designed to throttle at ~120C but there is no reason you should be hitting those temps. I own two 9800 GTX+ in SLI (a somewhat similar setup) and my temps never go above 60C under load (40C idle). I'd check to see if you have any dust buildup or any of the other usual suspects for overheating cards. Also, the latest NVidia drivers (196.75) have a fan issue that resulted in the fans not operating and could result in overheating and eventually bricking your GPU. Nvidia recommends you downgrade to 196.21 (which is what you did) or upgrade to their beta 197.13 drivers.

On the other hand, I still haven't gotten Supcom2 to run flawlessly on my system and get bluescreens still, so this might be a more widespread thing. I've been getting system lock ups left and right and made a thread about it, but no one can figure out a solution yet. Right now I'm just going to give it some time and apologize to my teammates whenever my system randomly crashes as we are about to win.|||can i ask have u encored this problem before or is it just with supcom 2?|||There's no dust (I recently make some cleaning into my CM690) and 9800GX2 is quite different than 2 cards in SLI, there's only one fan for the two GPU.

This problem is encountered only when playing SC2, there's no issue with FA at full level of details for example.

Beta drivers (196.34 & 197.13) make my system crash with BSOD when playing SC2. I never installed buggy drivers (196.75).|||Here are 2 scrrenshots (7MB zip file) of what appened after a freeze.

http://www.furyweb.org/screenshots.zip|||thanks for the screen shots it seems to me to be a graphic card issue. this could be with the drivers or the card itself for the game.

I would contact steam help for more advise|||I just make an FA skirmish to see the card temp.

Max 87°C (188°F) at full details, vert sync and 8Q antialias.

Wouldn't SupCom2 be more optimized than FA ?

Why my card take 10°C more than FA ???

It's the same hardware, same driver and same OS without any issue.|||i know FA is more cpu demanding than SUPCOM2 but the pigs are telling me taht there a graphic problem in there, SOMEWHERE lol try reinstalling the driver that might make supcom 2 refesh it's self|||I've just made another tests

1st: skirmish with no AI on "Arsenal de la coalition" (don't know the name in english), I play about an hour without problem

2nd: skirmish on "Shiva Prime" with 3 easy AI, Blue Screen before one minute !!

Minidump, dxdiag & sysdata are available at http://www.furyweb.org/SupComCrash.zip|||furynik|||Sadly SupCom 2 freezes here constantly too. It runs smooth and fine for about 5 to 10 minutes and then the screen freezes. I can still move the cursor but I have to alt + ctrl + del to get out of the game (and then it runs again to, but only for a really short while).
I have Intel Core i7 965 @ 3.20GHz, 12,0 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 285 (197.13). Currently running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit (so I don't get to use all of my RAM). It runs smooth and looks lovely, but only for 5 minutes. :-(|||I think I may have fixed it for me. Turns out the auto settings for my ram were out of spec.
Btw. GreyStreet, each RAM module sucks about 2W of power, you could save a lot of heat until you install a 64bit os :P|||reddev32|||korbendallas|||I've made three different tests on Shiva Prime with none, one and two IA.
With none and one IA there's no bug, with two IA the game freezes in a couple of minutes.
GreyStreet: you can post DxDiag for first, next try to do a screenshot with Ctrl-F ingame when you got graphical bug.|||furynik
